Coming to the United State at the age of three with no understanding of the culture, norms, traditions, but more importantly the language was an obstacle. The struggles that I encountered as a student have influenced my decision to become an educator. My experience as a student has allowed me to understand that all children have a different story to tell. As a future educator, my goal is to teach students so they can excel in their academics, but also understand that students are unique individuals. Regardless of a student’s background, they should be allowed to develop their intellectual ability by being a part of a positive classroom environment where learning can be enhanced.
Teacher-Student Relationship There are a lot of qualities that make a good teacher. Some characteristics are motivating, patient, encouraging, friendly, and showing interest in students learning. In my opinion, to be an effective teacher a positive teacher-student relationship is a fundamental component. Greeting each student before they walk into the classroom will establish a healthy relationship. Students will not only see me as an authority figure, but an individual who they can trust. However, not all students learn the same way because they all have unique academic needs. Therefore, each student will learn the material through different methods. Acknowledging this, my role is to reach all students through a variety of strategies to convey the information. I will adjust and differentiate Some of the common teaching methods I will use are hands-on, group work, independent work, projects, and technology. As a class room, we will all work together to understand the learning material. I believe that in order for a student to retrieve the information to their full potential the lesson plan needs to be clear, informative, and engaging. I am open to criticisms and new teaching methods to better educate my
