I am majoring in Early Childhood Education. I want to be a Kindergarten teacher and have since I was a small girl in Elementary School. Early Childhood Education encompasses kindergarten through second grade. After reading an article for another class about student debt and students coming out of college and not making enough money, I had become a bit discouraged about my decision to be a teacher. I did find through doing some research, a few things that I did not know. Per encyclopedia.com. I learned that kindergarten is not required in required in all states. “Although most children attend public kindergarten, attendance is not compulsory in most states and not all states require that public schools offer kindergarten.” I just assumed that it was …show more content…

I thought that all children had the opportunity to go to Kindergarten. I think that is a vital aspect in every child’s education as it gives them a taste of what real school will be like but in a safe environment with teachers that understand that these kids are experiencing all of this for the first time. Earlychildhoodteacher.org stated that “Kindergarten teachers have a lot of the same responsibilities of other teachers but also have to take into account that many of their students will be experiencing school for the first time. They must teach students basic skills in reading and writing in addition to showing them how to behave in the classroom and play nicely with others.” Those are some of the main reasons that I want to become a teacher. I know it sounds cheesy to say that I want to make a difference in a child’s life, but I honestly do. I think that Kindergarten is the basis for how some children think about the rest of their schooling. It can make or break some children by the interactions they have with those first adults who teach, encourage, and love
