It was the third of May and all the llamas were enjoying their breakfast in the lush Andes mountains in the country of Peru, when a grey cloud rolled over the land. The llamas rose their heads to look at the dark smog that was obstructing the sunlight from passing through. The darkness didn’t bother the herd, as they knew it was temporary. After three days without sunlight though, the llamas knew something must be happening. They turned towards the valley and saw smoke rising from the Amazon Rainforest far in the distance. The leader of the herd, a brave llama named Derrick, decided to go explore the mysterious smoke. Derrick had planned on ignoring the thick cloud of darkness, but the herd philosopher, Malakai, had some news for him. It also releases oxygen gas into the air, which helps the llamas breathe in the high altitudes of the mountains. Photosynthesis occurs in the chloroplast, which is a key component in a plant’s cells. From there, the chlorophyll turns those reactants into glucose, which gives the llamas the ingredients to create ATP through a process called cellular respiration. Which, in a sense, is breathing. Derrick absorbed this information and knew he had to do something to protect the wellbeing of his herd. So Derrick went down the mountain and traveled many miles to scope out what was occurring in the rainforest. What he saw was devastating. He witnessed a crowd of humans setting fire to the earth. He watched from a distance as they set ablaze the luscious green canopies and felt fear as he watched the wildlife scurrying from the flames.
