Following the American Revolution and the separation from Britain, the main group that seemed to “hold all the power” were men, mostly white, of property. Many other groups during this time did not hold the same amount of power as the men. Women, in particular, suffered in terms of rights during and after the American Revolution. Between how women were to be seen in the eye of the public and their place in politics, women had very little rights.
Divorce is very common when both parents work and never have time to spend time together. But money makes the world go round and if you don’t have any then you are left out to dry. In the Frontline documentary titled “Two American Families” it shows the hardships that two families, one white and one black, face. The white family was called the Neumann’s and the black family was called the Stanley’s.
Leta S. Hollingworth was an American psychologist who focused most of her research on giftedness, educational psychology, psychology of women, and the variability hypothesis. She conducted numerous studies to reject the variability hypothesis that deemed women for destined for mediocrity and did her dissertation on how women were not mentally incapacitated during menstruation (Held, 2010). Hollingworth wrote six articles on the social factors that contributed to the social status of women. (1) One being “Social Devices for Impelling Women to Bear and Rear Children,” this article focused on the eight social constructs that motivated and pressured women to have and raise children. A Women’s Revolution Women of the Republic, written by Linda Kerber, tells the story of the American Revolution from the viewpoint of American women. Women are rarely recognized as playing a role in the war, but in fact, many had significant roles. Women of the Republic is a collection of diary entries, letters, and legal material over a seven-year period. By studying these historical documents, Kerber is able to show women’s status change, women’s participation in the war, and the change in women’s education. During this time, women’s roles began to change, and many women became more assertive.
In her essay, “The Importance of Work,” from The Feminine Mystique published in 1963, Betty Friedan confronts American women’s search for identity. Throughout the novel, Betty Friedan breaks new ground, concocting the idea that women can discover personal fulfillment by straying away from their original roles. Friedan ponders on the idea that The Feminine Mystique is the cause for a vast majority of women during that time period to feel confined by their occupations around the house; therefore, restricting them from discovering who they are as women. Friedan’s novel is well known for creating a different kind of feminism and rousing various women across the nation.
The search of identity is an issue familiar to contemporary society as well as to the society of 1963 when Betty Friedan published her feminist manifesto The Feminine Mystique. The main idea of Friedan 's article, "The Importance of Work," is the question of how individuals can recognize their full capacities and achieve identity. She argues that human identity is meaningful purposeful work, and individuals are not identified as women or men, just human based upon their work. Friedan believes work is what an individual does in his or her life; for example, snowboarding, songwriting, hockey, football etc. Friedan was an author, an activist, and the first president of the National Organization for Women.
Studies also show that children who have gone through divorce are more likely to get lower grades and are considered less pleasant to be around by their peers and teens who live in a single parent or blended home are three times more likely to need psychological help within a year. Changes, occurring in the 1920’s and continuing into the 20th Century have been significant in the lives of women. However, today, women are still treated unequally with men still being considered the dominant gender. Women were considered as being naturally weaker than men. Since early times, women have been the strength in the home and family. Connecting those periods from the early, nineteenth century into the 20th Century, life for women have changed in so many ways.
Frederick Buechner once said, “Compassion is sometimes the fatal capacity for feeling what it is like to live inside somebody else's skin.” Similarly, an author by the name of Barbara Lazear Ascher wrote an essay called “On Compassion,” in which she states that people learn about compassion when they experience hardships and begin to put oneself in another’s place. Along with the idea of compassion being learned, Ascher also tries to make us wonder what our motive is that leads us to being compassionate. Ascher tries to make us question why we feel the need to be compassionate towards others throughout her essay.

Male soldiers had just returned home from war to see America “at the summit of the world”(Churchill). Many Americans were confident that the future held nothing other than peace and prosperity, so they decided to start families. However, the 1950s was also a time of radical changes. Because most of the men in the family had departed to fight in the war, women were left at home to do the housework.

The author asserts that children from divorced families are two times likely to see their marriages end in divorce. This quote by professor, Kyle Morford, makes women rethink about what rights they have and what the future holds for them. These concerns arose after the Republican Presidential nominee,Donald Trump, won the presidential election. Women feel that the conservative candidate may eliminate or jeopardize all the rights women have worked to earn (site). Hemingway writes in such a way that he makes everyone really think and analyze the book to fully understand it. As people read through the chapters Hemingway places specific events in such a way that they understand who this woman is. Hemingway begins by telling you about other characters before he mentions Brett to make you aware of the time and lives of the other characters.
As divorce has become more common place in society, millions of children affected by separation of the nuclear family. For children, it is very hard to lose a parent because they just a little children that did not known what the situations really is. Also, a child 's life becomes more stressful because of the losses of parental support and economic. Significantly affect the child 's welfare. Since many children do not adapt well, their behavior is affected.
