Our protagonist Rainsford ends up on an evil island called ship trap island. While on this island he meets Zaroff and learns out why the island is considered evil, Zaroff hunts people on that island. Some of the main reasons the game isn't fair are the weapons each player gets aren't equal, the “prey” doesn't know the island as well as Zaroff does, and Zaroff is considered to be the best hunter in the world.
The story-“The most dangerous game” is written by the author Richard Connell during the time of World War-I. The most dangerous game is a short story about a hunter named Sanger Rainsford who is marooned on an island after accidentally falling off a yacht. After Rainsford falls, he frantically swims to the nearest island in search of food and shelter. However this deserted island is not an ordinary island. This is called Ship Trap Island.

Throughout the text we come across a dark suspense which ends in one man’s victory and the defeat of an undefeated man. Rainsford, a hunter who is traveling with a friend through a dangerous island known as “Ship-Trap Island” when he suddenly falls into the sea and must swim to that mysterious island for shelter. There he is welcomed by General Zaroff, a hunter and comes to discover that he has lost the thrill for hunting animals and has now created a new “animal” to hunt, humans. Rainsford is initially shown to not show any empathy to the wild animals he hunts. Zaroff is no different, with him declaring, “I hunt the scum of the earth: sailors from tramp ships--lassars, blacks, Chinese, whites, mongrels,” (9). Zaroff hunts humans who have the unfortunate luck to arrive on Ship-Trap Island. Zaroff gives no second thought about hunting humans because he finds them to be the perfect sport to hunt, and finds pleasure in hunting them. The short story “The Most Dangerous Game” is a story where suspense and thrill is the targeted audience. The story of “The Most Dangerous Game” follows a game hunter named Rainsford after he gets thrown off of his boat and lands on Shiptrap Island. On that island, he meets a man named the General and who was also a game hunter. Rainsford later finds out that the General is no normal game hunter, but a hunter of the people that land on Shiptrap Island. Later in the story, Rainsford is then hunted by the General, yet lives to be freed from the island.
Initially, Rainsford feels that animals being hunted do not understand or feel the terror that a hunter puts upon the animal. He thinks he will always be a hunter and does not care if the animals have an understanding of being hunted. Then when he meets Zaroff, the tables are turned and now Rainsford is being hunted. Lastly, Rainsford has the opportunity to murder Zaroff quickly, but he chooses to make it a fight. General Zaroff is different, to say the least, in Richard Connell’s book, “The Most Dangerous Game.” Rainsford is stranded on a deserted island, or so he thinks. Rainsford comes upon a mansion that is owned by General Zaroff. He knows of Rainsford, who is a renowned author of a book about the hunt, as well as everything and everywhere Rainsford has hunted. General Zaroff is also a hunter, but he goes to the extreme.
Most people when they hear “The Most Dangerous Game” they think of bull riding or other dangerous games that don’t involve death. “The Most Dangerous Game” is a suspenseful cliff hanging story that follows the days of a castaway on the island of a crazed hunter. Rainsford is a big game hunter who falls off a boat near the island of General Zaroff, a big Cossack general who is looking for an alternative to hunting dangerous animals but with a twist. Throughout “The Dangerous Game” Rainsford and General Zaroff both show examples of IRony and exert arrogance.
