Physical therapist has been assisting individuals since the early 1900s, and have been apart of this world ever since. Physical Therapist, provide care for individuals who need professional rehab, from a prior injury, surgery, or illness. Physical therapist are health care professionals who diagnose and treat individuals of all ages, from newborns to the very oldest, that may have medical problems or other health-related conditions that limit their abilities to move and perform functional activities in their daily lives (“PT: Occupational Outlook Handbook 1”). Physical therapy is a great career to go into, if that individual enjoys helping people, and working in the medical field.

Students who want to become a physical therapist must find the right school, that provides the best education programs. To practice as a physical therapist in the US, the student must earn a physical therapist degree from a CAPTE- accredited physical therapist education program and pass a state licensure exam (Physical Therapy Education Overview). To do so, physical therapist must study courses that often include: anatomy,physiology, biology, chemistry, and physics (Physical Therapy Schools & Careers). The doctoral degree program is included in those courses, which is a bachelor degree program, which usually takes up to 3 years to complete. All states require PTs to become licensed. Licensing requirements are set by individual states, but include passing the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE), which is administered by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT) (“. The NPTE is a computerized, multiple-choice exam that is required to pass. Once you have passed the exam, the student can apply to clinical residency program. That is a program which is actually hands on, and gives you the opportunity to start practicing. After completing the clinical residency program and gaining work experience,the student may apply to become a board-certified specialist. Which offers certification in 8 clinical specialty areas.Board specialist certification requires passing an exam and at least 2,000 hours of clinical work or completion of an American Physical Therapy Association (“Physical Therapy Schools & Careers”).
