Physical Therapy
Physical therapy is a career that will always be needed throughout society; it helps the human body rebuild physical function in people that have been injured, have birth defects, or any other reasons. People who have been in accidents or have disabling conditions such as low-back pain, arthritis, heart disease, fractures, head injuries and cerebral palsy turn to physical therapists, commonly called PTs, for help. These health care professionals use an assortment of techniques, called modalities, to reestablish function, improve movement, relieve pain and avoid or limit lasting physical disabilities in their patients. It is a job that will always be needed, there will always be people that need help regaining their physical health to be able to walk again or maybe just be able to move their thumb again. Physical therapists have to run tests when a patient comes to the office. This is to make sure where and what about the type of injury. After the patients’ assessment, the physical therapist will setup a patient treatment plan in accordance with the written and signed prescription of the referring physician. Create PT treatment plans to improve or restore a patient’s mobility and reduce pain. Butler: The main benefit of the physical therapy field is the work environment. In this field an individual has flexible hours, casual dress code, and a positive atmosphere that will make an individual want to come to work. The career field of physical therapy is a profession of hard work through schooling and years of dedication but is rewarding when an individual’s patients make full recoveries.
Me: Is it hard to advance in a career in physical therapy?
Mr. Butler: As well as many other careers in the business world, physical therapy also has the opportunity for advancements, or promotions. A physical therapist usually starts out as a staff therapist, where they develop their clinical skills. For an individual that is a physical therapist they can advance on to become a team leader, program director, clinical coordinator, clinic manager.
