Andrew McGahan’s historical fiction novel, ‘The White Earth’ published in 2004, depicts the interrogation of racial, proprietorial, and cultural politics of 20th century Australia, as it recounts the protagonist, William and his mother migrating to Kuran station; a land of rich, black soil, with a House filled with sinister overtones but the inheritance of the land proves to be the character’s downfall. Set in 1992, the novel demonstrates qualities of gothic elements to bring forward the attitudes and actions of post-colonial Australia and articulates the significance of the Mabo decision and its legacy for social and legal changes. This idea of land and place results in a spiritual relationship with its inhabitants; this is prevalent in ‘The
By successfully gaining a bachelors degree in sculpture I will be able to further my studies to become an art therapist, where I can help people like myself, or anyone who has an ailment find peace and focus through the expression of how they feel. Furthermore, I will be able to show those who feel stuck or handicapped a way to be free of negative self image but putting it on paper and turning something dark into a beacon of beauty and self appreciation. Additionally, I could help spread awareness for both mental and physical ailments through my work, and the work of those I teach, to further the message that while some may only percieve the illness of an individual there is always more to someone than just that; they are a mother, a daughter,
Physical Therapy Assistant is an interesting field; it is a job that helps individuals in need. I interviewed Lucero because she is currently working in the same field that I see myself working in the future. The interview took place on November 29th; it lasted an hour and a half. The interview was about me trying to understand more about my future life as a physical therapist assistant. The purpose of this interview was for me to envision if this is the profession that I want for myself, in the future.
I desire my future to be successful. I will learn more about myself and what I need by completing these surveys. Looking at the broad view in life makes the most sense because having an outline for the future is the path to triumph. Being capable of inspecting the details in life gives prospects you might never see coming otherwise. I grasp that much of what has sculpted my personality are the things I have experienced and the community I have been entangled with.
and intrigued by the mind-body connection as well as the importance of human activity and occupation in maintaining mental and physical well-being. At the same time, my desire to work directly with people and be able to make a positive and lasting change to their lives by empowering them and helping discover their strengths and confidence in themselves to achieve their goals, led me to a realization that a career in occupational therapy would be a perfect fit for me. To me occupational therapy is a dynamic, rewarding, challenging, and inspiring field where I can fully realize my skills and knowledge. Having always been a firm believer in the patient-centric approach, I am passionate about providing excellent service to patients by improving their performance, preventing illness and disability and promoting adaptation to life
With the increase of the baby boomer generation reaching the age of 65, comes an increase in patients utilizing Medicare part B for physical therapy services. Each part of Medicare comes with its own rules and regulations to follow when treating this population and in the outpatient physical therapy world; there is temptation to violate these regulations for various reasons. Two main reasons a physical therapist may violate Medicare part B regulations are increasing productivity and revenue. When treating patients in the outpatient clinic, physical therapists can typically see anywhere from 1-3 patients an hour. When a patient shows up late or a schedule is filling up, a physical therapist may choose to double book patients, including Medicare patients (Jannenga, 2014).
Prior to my junior year of high school, Occupational Therapy was foreign to me. I was on a field trip that year when I was first exposed to an Occupational Therapy session, and I was not sure what was taking place. However, I was certain that I was beyond intrigued and immediately wanted to learn more. After extensively searching for information and continuously exposing myself to opportunities of learning, I knew that pursuing a career in Occupational Therapy was my desire, and I would do whatever it took to be successful in fulfilling it.
Becoming an occupational therapist is my passion and my long-term career goal. Since a young age I have been incredibly inspired and motivated to befriend and help disabled individuals. Having grown up with a disabled mother who benefited from the services of occupational therapy I had the opportunity to see first hand how the experience gave can give individuals like her fulfilling and productive lives. With both parents working as healthcare professionals, including my mother who is now an occupational therapist herself, I see every day how rewarding the field is. Through my life I have had unique personal, professional and educational experiences that have shaped me into a strong candidate for an advanced education in occupational therapy.

Working full time for the past two years, I have had experience being both a physical therapist aide/technician and even an assistant. I have completed observation hours at Gentilly Physical Therapy and Sports Rehabilitation, where I was a technician to a couple physical therapy assistants and physical therapists. At Gentilly rehabilitation center, I understood the nature of the work by assisting patients through weight training, teaching them the proper way to move around and assisted with recording the progress of each treatment. While observing patients under a physical therapist's supervision, I also had the responsibility of supervising lower level technicians during my support duties. Then the following year I observed at PhysioFit; I had a chance to
Throughout the semester, I have gained a better understanding of adapted physical education and sport programs. These programs provide children and adults with an opportunity to participate in sports they may not have thought were possible. The modifications to sport and exercise allows individuals with a range of disabilities to engage in activity. The disabilities can range from a mild learning disability to a permanent condition caused from a serious accident. While observing numerous individuals with disabilities, I was able to obtain a better understanding of the challenges that came with physical activity.
“Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything” (Plato). If my childhood was filled with anything: it was imagination. From my earliest memories of my cousin, and I putting on a sold out concert on my papaw’s front porch; to putting my baby dolls to sleep with lullabies. Music has always been a big part of my life: it was the one thing I could always count on, no matter where I went; and that still stands true today.
