I have known for years that I wanted to work in the realm of health science. I knew that I wanted to do something in sports medicine. When I took a deeper look into sports medicine I learned that there are many areas of sports medicine that you can get licensed in and that the sports medicine part would be a specialty to attach to it. So I took the list as started to look through it at each job that plays an affect in the sport medicine area. I narrowed in on Physical Therapy and then took the time to do some shadowing in it for my senior study.

The job offers great pay, benefits, job opportunities, and can move up to physical therapist. I’m already working for the Miami Heat and one day I will like to work for the basketball team. I love basketball, so working for the basketball team will be a great fit for me and a life time goal.
Occupational therapy is a profession that teaches meaningful, functional, and adaptive life skills. After reading two stories from the book ordinary miracles, in which both were different, they were closely related to occupational therapy. The Power of Encouragement: Living in rural Wisconsin, Barbara Schroder, worked for 25 years operating various sewing machines, performed repetitive, manipulative, and occasionally heavy work involving the use of both arms and hands. Therefore, when workers’ compensation was approved, she was referred to Occupational Therapy.
Occupational therapy provides assistance for those who are in need of assistance with daily living and work skills. These specialists work with people of various demographics to handle normal life challenges in a safe and healthy manner. How does occupational therapy work? The therapist determines what is important to the patient, and the obstacles preventing the patient from enjoying these aspects of life.
After looking at all of my skills sets and interests. The first career that I will choosing is being a Physical Therapist. I have chosen this career because I was not really sure what I wanted to be but since I like being active, I thought that being a physical therapist might be a good idea . I think I will be successful at it because if I like to help people and I myself I like to gain and build muscle so that will motivate me to help them. Well at the moment I work at a nursing home as a receptionist and we have a physical therapy department in there.
For the practice of Occupational Therapy it teaches meaningful, functional, and adaptive life skills; it is a profession that enhances activities of daily living (ADL), and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL). IADL’s including community mobility, is a critical area for the United States citizens. Driving is an instrumental activity that needs addressed with each client for safety and testing motor movements. Contexts The circumstances that form setting for an event, or idea, and in terms of which are fully understood and assessed. The occupational therapist impacts the service of context by making sure goals are being met and if not what needs to be changed within the intervention to make it more successful. With the increase of the baby boomer generation reaching the age of 65, comes an increase in patients utilizing Medicare part B for physical therapy services. Each part of Medicare comes with its own rules and regulations to follow when treating this population and in the outpatient physical therapy world; there is temptation to violate these regulations for various reasons. Two main reasons a physical therapist may violate Medicare part B regulations are increasing productivity and revenue. When treating patients in the outpatient clinic, physical therapists can typically see anywhere from 1-3 patients an hour. When a patient shows up late or a schedule is filling up, a physical therapist may choose to double book patients, including Medicare patients (Jannenga, 2014).
Generally an athletic therapist’s job requires a lot of hands-on work, along with working with people directly creating many social relationships among co-workers and athletes. By experiencing over 13 years of school, I know the best way for me to learn, and that is by hands on work, exactly what I would be doing if I became an athletic therapist. Having the chance to work directly with people, is something I could never take for granted with this career, it is something I love to do now and if I’m able to do it the rest of my life, I could not ask for a better job. Being a social person, this job path would allow me to continue being that type of person and even encourage me to expand my social circle. Nobody can change who I am because I’m my own person, finding that job which complements the type of person I am is important to me
Executive Summary: It is unfair that physical therapy is considered a “specialty service” which requires patients to pay high out-of-pocket costs to receive treatment. Individuals access to physical therapy is limited because of these outrageous co-pays. Decreased use of therapy services has the potential to lead to higher medical costs for health insurance companies in the long run. A bill lowering co-pays to a price comparable to the cost required for a primary care visit can not only improve access, but save money in the long run as well. Problem Statement: Co-pays for physical therapy services in New York state are very expensive, requiring patients to pay a great deal to receive therapy.
Throughout the semester, I have gained a better understanding of adapted physical education and sport programs. These programs provide children and adults with an opportunity to participate in sports they may not have thought were possible. The modifications to sport and exercise allows individuals with a range of disabilities to engage in activity. The disabilities can range from a mild learning disability to a permanent condition caused from a serious accident. While observing numerous individuals with disabilities, I was able to obtain a better understanding of the challenges that came with physical activity.
Physical therapist has been assisting individuals since the early 1900s, and have been apart of this world ever since. Physical Therapist, provide care for individuals who need professional rehab, from a prior injury, surgery, or illness. Physical therapist are health care professionals who diagnose and treat individuals of all ages, from newborns to the very oldest, that may have medical problems or other health-related conditions that limit their abilities to move and perform functional activities in their daily lives (“PT: Occupational Outlook Handbook 1”). Physical therapy is a great career to go into, if that individual enjoys helping people, and working in the medical field.
What has sparked my interest is once I knew that my brother was going to school to become a PT I thought it sounded like a good job so then I became an athletic trainer so I can start to learn some now. “My interest in this career is to be able to help people get back to where they once were”(“Barton”). I am currently doing athletic training to help me continue learning about being a PT by helping when someone gets an injury or by trying to give them some strengthening exercises. I have been really interested in this career for a very long time ever since I have known about Physical Therapy and what it does I have wanted to be in the field.
