Each artist has their own style of painting whether it may be a way of seeing a clearer viewpoint of the painting with a linear perspective or with rounded shapes which conveys a three dimensional effect. Each painting tells a story that the artist wants their viewers o know by the style they use. That is exactly what Masaccio and Pablo Picasso did with their most famous and influential paintings Tribute Money and Les Demoiselles d’ Avignon. Tribute Money by Masaccio is a fresco painting located in the Branacci Chapel of the basilica of Santa Maria del Carmine in Florence. This painting is considered to be one of Masaccio’s best works, which is very important of the development in the Renaissance art. Artist including Masaccio during the early Renaissance were inspired by the art of classical period of Rome and Greece. Masaccio was one of the three founders of Renaissance art. He made a huge impact for those artists who came after him. His techniques set the bar for Renaissance painters. Masaccio paintings had a three dimensional effect that convinced his viewers they are looking into depth space. He created styles such as cubism and surrealism. Cubism isn’t meant for paintings to look realistic or life like in any way. It is a way of artist looking an entire different way of seeing real life objects. Picasso made disjointed paintings such as Les Demoiselles d’ Avignon and analyzed s every single angle to make it into one whole piece. Picasso had different painting periods before cubism. He had a blue period in which he only painted in cold blues and darker colors. Then he had a rose period and introduced warmer colors such as pinks and soft reds. Once Picasso began his cubistic style he created tense and massive figures whose heads and facial features are seen in full-face. In the Les Demoiselle d’ Avignon painting where five women are portrayed as very ugly and distorted gave a whole new perspective to art. Picasso had broken all the rules by creating this painting but he also gave his viewers a chance to think deeply about what the painting means. He used geometric shapes giving his figures angular and fragmented bodies and facial expressions that no one had ever seen before. It looked as if theses women were going to fall into pieces and their heads were put on backwards. Picasso was inspired by Georges Braque African tribal mask so he incorporated that into his paintings as well.
