Frankenstein Final Essay The creation of life is one of the greatest and most fantastic feats that a human can bring to pass. Two works that have artificial animation are Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein and Disney’s telling of Pinocchio. They both work on the same basic concept of an outcast who was brought to life in a strange way and has to find the one person who truly understands them. The stories and character development in Pinocchio and Frankenstein are very similar, in that the creators share many traits, and that many plot points in the stories are very similar with different outcomes, and yet each takes a completely different turn when the creature arises. Gepetto was overjoyed because of the impossibility of wood ever coming to life. For Victor Frankenstein, however, the reality that his mismatched and mangled mound of moldy body parts could join and find life was too much for him to bear, and the mere sight of it all sent him hightailing for the hills in horror. Pinocchio had a fatherly figure that he latched onto very quickly, while the monster was alone and left with the heartbreaking image of his father running away in fear. Seeing a family member walk out on their family is something that can emotionally scar a child for life. After being separated from their fathers, Pinocchio and the monster both had a very short time to find something to latch onto emotionally. Pinocchio found Honest John and Stromboli, who wanted to use him and were not interested in his quest to become a real boy at all. This made him somewhat more cautious around strangers, but not hostile, but not enough to avoid them. Then, he found lampwick to be more of a comforting voice while they were in unfamiliar territory. He never really got to stay with one person very long. Even Jiminy Cricket, his conscience, couldn’t stay with him because Pinocchio was so unpredictable. The monster was left alone for so long, he was overjoyed once he found Felix and his family. However, even though he helped them, they forced him away. Both of these main characters suffered the fate of loneliness. While one hopped from friend to friend, the other stayed hidden, observing one family for a long time, only to be ripped away from that because of superficial reasons. Also, Pinocchio was able to hear what his destiny was to be: a real boy. Because Pinocchio’s aspirations would be considered to be honorable, and he becomes a real boy, he is probably readily accepted into his
