Just under three head coaches since the 1970’s, Chuck Noll, Bill Cowher, and Mike Tomlin, the Pittsburgh Steelers are a very consistent team. They do not fire head coaches. This is very important as they like to let their coaches figure it out rather than simply firing them. Under the current head coach, Mike Tomlin, they have never held a losing season. As they say, consistency is key, the Pittsburgh Steelers have run the same defense system for decades. In the 1970’s, the dominant defensive side of the team earned the name the Steel Curtain. The Steel Curtain was the foundation of the team in the 1970’s winning the Pittsburgh Steelers four Super Bowl wins out of six Super Bowl appearances. They have mastered the art of defense and till this day still do. Since the 1970’s, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been part of the playoff and Super Bowl discussion more than any football team. They have been in the playoffs a total of 33 times out of the 88 football seasons. The consistency in coaching and particular play style has led the Pittsburgh Steelers to be very successful throughout football
