Serrano Indians were the earliest known inhabitants of the land that is now Montclair. In 1774, Captain Juan Bautista de Anza named that sycamore tree-lined creek "Arroyo de los Alisos," the Stream of the Sycamores, later renamed San Antonio Creek. Up until the 1890s, Montclair was little more than grazing land and a watering hole.
Wes Pomeroy was the head of security at Woodstock. He originally said no to helping out with the event, but after Stanley Goldstein, director of operations, told him the reason for the event and the goal they were trying to reach, Pomeroy agreed to help out because he believed in what they were trying to accomplish (Makower, 1989, p. 60). Pomeroy was a highway patrolman, World War II veteran, and a chief deputy in California for years. In my opinion Louis Riel is a martyr because of the things he did for his beliefs. Being a martyr requires more than just a cause, it requires the individual to have strong beliefs for their religion, and then being killed due to those beliefs. Louis Riel would be classified as a martyr due to his actions and contributions for his religion as a Metis man. He helped develop and create an identity for the Metis community. My mother 's dad and my father 's two brothers and sister died. I really didn 't know much about my dad 's sister but, she died from a brain aneurysm.
