Question 1: Passive Transport Experiment
Diffusion is the passive transport of materials through a semi-permeable membrane from high concentration to a lower concentration. Because the concentration gradient is moving down, no energy (ATP), is required to transport the materials so the transport is passive. Osmosis is simply the diffusion of water across a cell membrane (“Complete Resource”, n.d.). Many factors can affect the rate of which osmosis occurs, including temperature, surface area, and pressure, among other things (“Complete Resource”, n.d.). In this procedure, we will look at how temperature affects osmosis. In osmosis, as temperature increases, the rate of osmosis increases (“Complete Resource”, n.d.). I have designed an experiment to test this theory. For …show more content…

This type of testing is used for a variety of different reasons. Genetic testing can be used to diagnose disease, identify gene changes that could be passed on to children, and probably the most popular and known among people, screen unborn babies for conditions and mutations, and identify gene changes that could increase the risk of a disease (“Frequently Asked”, 27 Aug 2015). There are far more beneficial notes to genetic testing than drawbacks. Genetic testing is beneficial for doctors to make decisions for treatment, saving everyone time and money. Genetic screening is also good for a couple who is trying to conceive by knowing the genetic probability for the baby to have mutations or certain diseases (“Frequently Asked”, 27 Aug 2015). There are very few drawbacks of genetic testing, but they do weigh pretty heavily. One drawback is the cost of genetic testing. Depending on the type of test you have performed, and the number of times you do it, one test can cost as much as $2,000 (“What is the Cost”, 15 Feb
