Over the past year there has been a vast amount of discussion dealing with American politics and the American Presidential election. The debates between Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton sparked fear in certain races and sexes throughout the world. Of particular interest was the debate revolving around Planned Parenthood and women's rights in America. After Trumps personal take on Planned Parenthood, it became apparent that women's rights could be threatened if he became president. Although Clinton had her flaws, she believed in women's rights and is an advocate for Planned Parenthood. Lead by the conservative politicians, their aims have been to cut federal funding so that Federal dollars are not going towards abortions. Annas and Mariner (2011) discuss the issues presented to Barack Obama when attempting to pass the Affordable Care Act. He spoke in 2010, reassuring the American people that federal money would not be spent on abortions (p. 1590). With the recent election in America, Trump and the Republican government will bring up issues involving funding to Planned Parenthood. Trump’s Vice-President, Mike Pence has been a strong advocate against Planned Parenthood for several years (Ziegler, 2012, p. 724). Pence argues that, “in offering this amendment today is that millions of pro-life Americans should not be asked to fund the leading abortion provider in the United States” (Ziegler, 2012, p.724). This has created uproar from people around the world, which has made it an interesting topic to research. Being a woman myself, I feel that any defunding to Planned Parenthood will have a tremendous impact on women around the world. However, it is important to recognize Trump’s points when considering the debate. Planned Parenthood creates several services for women and it is unfair to attack the service as a whole over people’s dismay with abortion. Through online newspapers, twitter, and academic articles, I plan on researching the Planned Parenthood debate, which has been brought to the attention of women around the world, and to give peoples voices that are normally ignored,
