I have been living in a cave with some of the decisions or all of them that I have in my life. Is this world just too much that we need to “condense” what we learn for a bigger picture? Sometimes this may be the case and other times it could just be our imagination/ or own interpretation coming into play. Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave” tells us how we are born into the cave and we believe what is in there. There is a lot of misconceptions in this world today, is it that we have been “locked” in the cave and then were released to see the real image of what we were seeing. Studying music education, it is a big spectrum to be taught so universities have to limit the amount of what they are teaching so we can get an understanding. During this educational time, we will learn the theory of music, history, music technology, bands, choirs, orchestra and eventually how to teach and apply what we learned to the classroom teaching environment. To me, it feels like we are missing something and we are just seeing the shadow of a concept. Once we go out of the university cave, that shadow concept we see is now a totally different idea, but similar. It is easy to just learn everything from the shadows but when we go out to the real world, we need to adapt. There is so much to learn in this field, we need to know what is going on so we can be successful. Truman the main character of his own TV show saw a glimpse of the real world lurking outside of his cave. He then was curious about what is really happening. When he was trying to escape/ trying to figure out if his whole life was fake, people tried to tell him he is fine and should not worry about it. He is the prisoner that is trying to escape but has not found a way because he is “chained.” Later on throughout the movie, Truman finds a way to escape and was able to see/ live the real world. The process he went through to be able to live and see the real world was hard and long. With this experience he knows that he will not be looking at “shadows” but he will see the real object.
