On October 6th, 2017 I saw the play Silent Sky at Mount Carmel Academy in the Fitzmorris Performing Arts Center. I saw this play at 7 pm. The playwright of this play was Lauren Gunderson. The director was Kristi Jacob Stanley. The cast only consisted of 5 people, Katherine Kitchen, Sarah Dean, David Sanchez, Ava Buras, and Jessica Duplantis. This play was a type of expressionism, in this play there is drama. This play is about a girl named Henrietta Leavitt who leaves her family for a job at Harvard University's Observatory to be an astronomer. When she is there, she maps the night sky by studying photographic plates. When she is there she meets Peter Shaw who is the head astronomer's apprentice, she ends up falling in love with him. The story worked out really well because of the people who played the characters. The play was also entertaining because of the way the characters said their lines which correlated well with the well-written script. …show more content…

The way they spoke was very clear and relevant to the timing which was the late 1800's. The set was kind of everywhere. For example, when switching between scenes it was very apparent that the cast was placing stools and boxes on the stage. When Henrietta and Peter were writing to each other, the lights would focus on one person than to the other which really set the mood for this particular scene. For the costumes, they looked as if we were in the late 1800's. The costumes also fit the character's personality very
