Introduction
The site I chose and observed over seven total visits was my local public library, Pleasant View Library. Pleasant View Library was opened on June 25, 1975 by the North York Public Library Board and was retrofitted in 1995. It is currently one of the smallest libraries in Toronto. This makes the task of observing all of the library easy because one can see everything simply from their seat. The libraries hours of operation are 12:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Wednesday and Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Saturday, and closed Monday and Sunday. This place was chosen because a library is a great place to observe people due to the wide range of cultures, age, and religion of patrons since reading and educating oneself are universal actions.
Location
The main intersection that is close to Pleasant View Library is Finch and Victoria Park. The exact address of the library is 575 Van Horne Avenue. The community that the library is in is a very peaceful and quiet one. It provides the opportunity for a person to realize the amount of small aspects in a room that can influence how people interact, whether or not they enter a place, and the amount of time they stay in it. Pleasant View Library is a great place for someone to spend their free time at or just relax from the hardships of everyday life. The library has many accommodations which makes it an inviting environment for everyone, a friendly and safe surrounding neighbourhood, and many physical activities one can participate in at the attached community centre and nearby park.
