Plot & Theme Analysis
Introduction- Janie leaves Eatonville, goes to meet Tea Cake in Jacksonville like his letter said, and when she arrives they go and get married.
Rising Action- A storm occurs and Tea Cake and Janie are caught in it.
Climax- Tea Cake becomes sick and the doctor warns Janie that Tea Cake needs to be locked up, but Janie doesn’t listen.
Falling Action- Janie is taken into custody by police and goes on trial, she is found not guilty but Tea Cakes’ friends are still mad at her.
Conclusion- Janie is lonely but in a way she would rather be alone than get into another relationship, she still misses Tea Cake all the time, especially after she finishes telling her story. I believe that the theme for this section of the book is “Never take anything for granted”. I believe this because Janie finally realizes that she does love Tea Cake and basically starts to live life in the moment with Tea Cake. I found this quote interesting because it shows Janie finally express some kind of emotion of jealousy for someone. I also found it interesting because it allows the reader to know that Janie really loves Tea Cake and she really wants to be with him and stay with him. The quote allows the reader to really be drawn into the book at this point because of the emotion clearly expressed. The emotion catches the reader attention, it brings the reader into the character’s development. For example, “A little seed of fear was growing into a tree.” This part of the quote exhibits the part where the reader can feel an emotion. For me, the emotion was sympathy because I could relate to her fear of someone coming along and being better than her. It allows the reader to relate to her in a way of the reader possibly being in that situation
