Podiatry Career Progression

Podiatry was not always my first career choice and quite honestly I didn’t know much about it until college. Podiatry is now my number one career choice without a doubt. Professional basketball players commit themselves to extensive practice to master the skills of their profession. Teachers educate and inspire the young to succeed. Politicians propose, support and create laws to improve the process for the citizens. As a podiatrist I would like to incorporate all three. I want to master the skills of podiatric diagnosis/treatment; work to improve the process and advancement of the podiatric medical field, and educate my patient’s so to give them the best chance to succeed. I was born in Cincinnati, OH and where I spent the first 23 years of my life. As a young child I remember spending multiple hours a week at Bethesda North hospital with my grandparents as they both battled multiple health issues. At the age of 23 my curiosity for the medical field drove me to Miami, Florida where I spent two years of my life before coming back to Cincinnati for my ailing father. My father owned a small landscaping company, and I proudly considered myself his partner. The manual labor was exhausting and it never seemed the days would end. Being a small family business, it was up to everyone to contribute to make it successful. Surely, my attitude during that time wasn’t always intent to cut grass or build rock walls as I watched my friends have more fun than myself, but the experiences I received would become invaluable, and would far outweigh my lack of free time. I was taught the importance of working hard, being honest, being grateful for what I had and taking the time to help others. That’s what I will bring to the residency program, a hard working individual who is humble to be given the chance to serve
