Poem Analysis: I Am America

127 Words1 Pages
I Am America I am America, shades of red and blue. A dark and misty lake of purple caste. Some sleeping on rocks with dew, invisible to most without a past. This is their America too. I am America, land of plenty. The fire crackles to warm the bowl. The hungry, a million and twenty, sunken, gnawing the spirit and soul. This is their America too. I am America, caring for all. The melancholy sounds of the song thrush. Naked, scared, unable to crawl, the needy forgotten like floras in the brush. This is their America too. I am America, young and strong. Free like the butterfly with wings of gold. Dancing gracefully across the pond, with dignity and kindness. I will make this their America too.
