Edgar Allan Poe was a writer, critic, editor, and poet. He wrote poems and short stories about mystery and horror. Many of Poe’s stories and poems became literary classics. Poe’s first book Tamerlane and Other Poems was a published in 1827, he published the book himself. From 1835 to 1837, Poe was a critic at Southern Literary Messenger in Richmond. Poe published some of his own works in the magazine. Several of Poe’s most spine-tingling tales were published in his collection of short stories Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque. “The Fall of the House of Usher,” “William Wilson,” and “Ligeia.” Poe’s poem “The Raven” is considered one of Poe’s best work and one of the most well-known poems …show more content…

His mother, Elizabeth Arnold Poe was a British actress. Poe's father, David Poe, Jr. was an actor who was born in Baltimore. When Poe was three, his mother died from tuberculosis. Early in Poe´s life, his father left the family. Poe was separated from his sister Rosalie and his brother William. He went and lived with John and Frances Valentine Allan. Edgar Allan Poe lived with his Aunt Maria Clemm and his cousin, Virginia from 1831 to 1835.
Virginia was Poe's literary inspiration and Poe fell in love with Virginia. In 1836, when Virginia was 13, she and Poe got married. Virginia died at age 24 from tuberculosis in 1847. The age of 24 was also the age that Poeś mother and brother died at.The mystery and horror that inspired Poe was when Virginia, Poe’s wife died and when Poe’s father left, his mother died, and he was separated from his sister and brother. Virginia helped Poe because she was his inspiration. Poe’s life helped him to become a great writer because in his life he went through a lot of sad things, so he had inspiration from his life.
Poe lived with John and Frances Valentine Allan. Then from 1831 to 1835, he lived with his aunt Maria Clemm and Virginia, his
