In the song, Believe, by Shawn Mendes, the explicit message is that you should always believe in yourself. This is shown when, in the first 8 lines of the song, It repeats, “ I believe, I believe, I believe, hey!”. This means that he believes in himself and others to achieve great things. Also, in the song, he sings, “Don’t be afraid to be what you are”. This is saying that no matter who you are, you should always be proud of yourself. The implicit message in this song is that you should always have courage no matter what, and to never let any obstacle overcome you, since “Everest is only a mountain” and “a pyramid is just a shape”. At one point, Shawn sings the line, “Who keeps tabs on stupid mistakes? We all mess up, but that’s just the way we learn how to get back up”. A big one is using hyperboles throughout the song. The line, “Everything is possible” suggests that no matter what, you can achieve anything, or do anything. This is not always true, but the author used it to show that if you try hard, you will have a better chance to achieve what you want, rather than not trying hard to achieve your goals.
