Poetry helps an author to express their inner emotions and often incorporates various poetic devices which enriches the text. Poetry gives the reader a different perspective and when read closely, can give the audience a look into the authors imagination. In “Introduction to Poetry”, Collins mentions that some poetry enthusiasts try too hard to find the meaning of a poem; to try and decipher it like some ancient hieroglyphics, that they forget that poetry is not an essay and does not necessarily have to have a distinct message. In stanza’s seven and eight, the speaker states that poetry should be felt, and that what one poem means to a group of people could have a completely different effect on another group. In stanza eight “Feel the walls” is the speaker’s ways of saying that one should feel a poem and let the poem speak to them, instead of searching for what they believe to be its true meaning.

Most of the time poetry can be very pleasing to the ear; however, at times it can be written in a manner that is odd. Some poetry is written in a way that the reader can “hear”, “feel”, “see” or “taste” elements in the poem. Some poems may rhyme while others may not need to in order to convey the message.
Reflective commentary: “TSN” is a poem composed of four different sections of verse; three ballad stanzas, a section of blank verse followed by a rhyming couplet and finally four stanzas of free verse. The first three sections of prose are written in predominately consistent meter, alternating iambic tetra- and trimeter in the three ballad stanzas, and iambic pentameter in the section of blank verse and the rhyming couplet. “Predominately” as there are some substitutions within two of the ballad stanzas (despite the poet’s best efforts). More specifically two trochaic substitutions, “Monarch”, and “Dire”, and an anapestic substitution “absolute”.

This definition isn’t necessarily wrong, it’s just incomplete. The physical definition can be used as a base for the real definition.
The definition of poetry is a literate piece of art that expresses an emotion through a type of rhythm. Poetry is a way to let people know what you’re thinking and how you are feeling. In my opinion, all poetry should express an emotion, poetry should be able to make the reader feel what is being described. Prose is a type of literature that focuses mainly on facts and the direct description of an event. While prose is more straightforward and to the point, poetry takes the time to describe the emotions of situations.
Like any style of literature, poetry features unique elements that help to set it apart from other types of writing. Poetry can follow set rules, such as the lines and syllables that are required to make a sonnet, or they can have no rules at all, as can be seen in free verse poetry. Each specific style of poetry has a slightly different type of audience, such as people who admire the structure of classic poems or people who simply love the ability to express their feelings by using the most beautiful words possible, and they all work together to give poetry its important place in the world of literature.
