Point Of View In The Shack By William Paul Young

The book I am currently reading is The Shack by William Paul Young. The point of view in this story is first person, from the eyes of Mackenzie Allen Phillips with his friend, Willie, writing the story because Mack is not very good with words. I believe he chose to tell the story from Mack’s point of view because he’s a husband and father to three kids who he loves with all his heart. In this story, you will follow him in the darkest time in his life and see how his entire world came crashing down in an instant. You’ll also see how he battles with, both, himself and God about why things turned out the way they did. In the beginning, Mack goes to get the mail and he gets a letter that reads, “Mackenzie it’s been a while. I’ve missed you. I’ll be at the shack next weekend if you want to get together. – Papa”(pg. 16) …show more content…

At this point in the story, I’m not sure why God would want to meet him at a shack, but by Mack’s reaction to his letter, I can infer that the shack holds great meaning to Mack. “Mack stiffened as a wave of nausea rolled over him and just as quickly mutated into anger.” (pg.16) This line of the story shows that there is something about the shack that is unsettling to him. When his family comes home you can sense the amount of love he has for them because he decides to take his kids on a camping trip before school started back. While he’s telling the story, you see a glimpse of the kids through his eyes, and before you realize it, you have fallen in love with his family too. Every little detail just makes you love them even more. While sitting with his little girl, Missy, in his arms it tells you how he feels at that moment. “’This is one of those rare moments’, thought Mack ‘that catches you by surprise and almost takes your breath away.’”(pg.
