Everyday people experience a series of events that are unique to them. Not everyone will have the exact same experience as someone else, but that doesn’t mean that they can never be learned about. In “The Girls in My Town” by Angela Morales, the story is focused on the obstacles that some people go through in life and how they live with them. Morales makes the focal point of the story about the hardships of teenage pregnancy. Sharing a story that is believable and educational for others to understand the experience that some teenage girls have to go through. To make the story believable, Morales uses her point of view to tell the story. Each event is explained from a first person point of view; the lives of the young girls is told through Morales’ eyes. From her point of view, many of the girls lack a stable education, “Many of these same girls want to write essays about the births of their babies, but they almost always lack the language to express anything more than a basic plot outline.” (Morales, 181). Her explanations on how these girls struggle are believeable because it makes sense when they’re in that situation. She can see all these hardships that teenage mothers have to go through in their day-to-day lives. One hardship that is mentioned is the difficulty with balancing their pregnancy with school. As a teacher, Morales teaches students who are pregnant. She starts with a story where one girl had brought her child to the final exam, she says, “She arrived late, all sweaty and exasperated, and I don’t remember exactly why she brought the baby - probably that her mother couldn’t babysit, so I said, Fine, fine, sit down, take the exam, don’t want you to fail on account of that, knowing these girls have enough problems as it is” (Morales, 179).
