Introduction
As one interested in the Criminal Justice field, I would like to bring attention to a growing concern currently plaguing the law enforcement environment; police brutality. This is an issue that has been gaining increased attention and has become a topic of intense debate; especially in recent years. The phenomenon of police brutality is not a new issue; yet, recent high-profile cases of gross misconduct have brought this issue to the forefront of public consciousness and a loud societal outcry for change. The purpose of this essay is to investigate, report on, and offer perspectives on the topic of police brutality in a way that responsibly represents multiple viewpoints and provides viable solutions to address this problem.
Background
Police brutality refers to the use of excessive force by law enforcement officers against civilians. This is a real problem not limited to any specific geographic or demographic group and rather cuts across all walks of life. This issue raises concerns about the conduct and behavior of our law enforcement officers as well as underlying ethical concerns related to police accountability.

It is also critical to raise the awareness of law enforcement personnel about the effects of individual implicit cultural biases through effective training. This training must be ongoing and mandatory for all law enforcement officers and should be designed to help officers understand the complex social and cultural dynamics of the communities for which they serve. By providing officers with the tools and knowledge they need to effectively interact with the public, law enforcement agencies and their officers will naturally reduce incidents of excessive force and more effectively create positive community
