Police brutality is an awful issue in the United States of America because officers hurt and kill innocent people with too much use of force. Police brutality is an issue because it may cause deaths. Unlawful use of force causes injuries and trauma. My book was Dear Martin by Nic Stone. My book is about a teen named Justyce who got an unlawful beating by an officer named Castillo. Justyce kept fighting to stop police brutality after his friend Manny was shot by an off duty officer just for playing loud music. Police brutality is a huge issue because police officers have been using unnecessary force on African Americans and on other types of races, too.

In Dear Martin, Justyce was helping his ex-girlfriend because she was drunk. He tried to drive her home, but Officer Castillo pulled him over for wearing a hood. Officer Castillo thought Justyce was going to steal a car. Officer Castillo surrounded him, hit him to the ground and told Justyce to “shut up.” Officer Castillo cursed at Justyce saying he knew he was trouble from wearing the hood. Instead of talking with the people peacefully, some officers end up hurting people which is something the police academy doesn’t stand for. It stands for helping others peacefully, but some officers do the opposite. The cops don’t let the suspects get a chance to talk because the officers know they have too much power and think they are above the people.
