People look up to police for them to protect them and to feel safe, except in reality a lot of cases police are the ones who cause the harm and do the damage. Police brutality in the Civil Rights movement era influenced police brutality today in many ways. During the Civil Rights movement police used brutality in riots and to big groups of African Americans who were standing up for what they believe in. Also during that era police used brutal force against specific people that didn’t deserve it, which caused many riots. Even today in the 20th century police still use police brutality to African Americans. Police are sometimes very racist and unequal and it hasn’t changed much throughout the years.

On August 9, 2014 a man named Michael Brown was shot by a police officer named Darren Wilson in Ferguson, Missouri. Wilson said that it was because he was a suspect in a robbery case and when he approached Brown he punched him and ran away, and that is when he shot him. Except Brown was with one of his friends who said that once Wilson chased after him he stopped in a surrender position, and that is when Wilson shot him. Wilson shot him at least six times.There was not enough evidence to support Brown's friends story so Wilson didn’t get charged. This launched the Black Lives Matter movement which still goes on today. In Charlotte, North Carolina a man was shot by a police officer on September 20, 2016. The police officer who killed him said that he was armed and had a gun on him. Except his family members said he didn’t own a gun. This sparked many protests and marches against police and the brutality they have on African Americans who do not deserve it. Even though we are in the 20th century many people are still victims of police brutality. Some police still have something against African Americans and use unfair treatment to them just because of their race. Police Brutality still happens today and affects lives of
