I currently work as a Police Officer for a school district located in Mansfield, TX. I began my law enforcement career as a Police Dispatcher for the same department I currently work at. I completed my Associates Degree while working as a fulltime Dispatcher. When I first began as a Dispatcher I had aspirations to be a Special Needs Teacher and be able to help people. However, by working as a dispatcher I found my true calling to be in Law Enforcement. I developed and entirely different level of respect for the men and women in blue. By being an officer meant I could help society and make more of a difference in more ways than one. After serving as a dispatcher for a year, an opportunity to go to the police academy and serve as an officer for my department became available. I quickly put my application in. During this time my very first trainer taught me that there is more to policing then just wearing a uniform in order to preserve the peace by catching bad guys. Being an officer means having compassion for your community, being unbiased towards others, and most importantly it is doing the right thing even when no one is around to watch you. By working for a school district and not a municipality I have the true pleasure of being able to work with today’s youth. My goal is educate today’s youth about what it truly means to wear the shiny badge in hope of creating a more positive outlook of officers. I have learned that simply being available and willing to just listen to a student express themselves in a unbiased environment helps defuse a lot of issues that are otherwise ignored and become bigger issues that involve the Criminal Justice
