British Columbia is at the western edge of Canada in which the Rocky Mountains creates a physical divide. Besides the physical divide British Columbia has always felt isolated from the rest of Canada with their economic and political differences. It has been an ongoing political friction between British Columbia and the federal government in Ottawa. The struggle for political power creates conflict between British Columbia and Ottawa, which prevents the two from forming a positive relationship. In response to this negative relationship is one factor British Columbia wants to separate from Canada and become their own country as Cascadia. British Columbia has a close link to Washington, Oregon and feel more connected to them then to rest of Canada.
