Sustainability in Los Angeles For a long time now, Los Angeles has had to deal with the issue of pollution, more specifically, air pollution. I had read this statement on a post sometime back. So when I heard about taking a trip to downtown Los Angeles, I was shocked and intrigued at the same time. I badly wanted to know why I had seen so many articles on Los Angeles and pollution online. I wanted to see where what was written held any water. I had a million and one questions on my mind that I was willing to answer on this particular day. It is known as Puente Hills Landfill and it is stands at 500 feet tall. I almost could not believe my eyes. The dumpsite has millions of tons of garbage. This is harmful to the environment and the ones living in it. The huge dumping site pollutes the land, as well as, the air.
I got to experience the traffic in Los Angeles and it is terrible. As a result, the city is experiencing the problem of smog. This occurs when gases emitted from factories and those from cars combine with temperature and other gases. This becomes a serious issue because it leads to global warming. It is also harmful to people’s health because they are breathing in contaminated air. This has resulted from the heavy reliance on automobiles and Long Beach Port Complex. It is also worth mentioning that despite all these, there is still hope for Los Angeles and its residents. Everyone is working so hard to ensure that everyone gets a dose of clean air. During my visit, I found out that a number of programs had been set up to fight lung cancer. Smoking has also been banned at the city parks, farms, city beaches, playgrounds and other public places. This will help a great deal because people will be living healthily and the number of individuals getting cancer and asthma will go
