Ponyboy and Johnny used to be not as close as now. Therefore, now, they become the closest friend. They become closer and share the same unforgettable experience, they have same situation and same social class. They also rely each other, console each other. Finally they became best friend. From their example, we can know that to people can become closer when they share happiness and suffering. Even though family is important to Ponyboy, Jonny is also important to him, Johnny is caring, a good companion and he is so warm. One of Johnny’s changes throughout this novel is through his actions, he become more brave. When Ponyboy and Johnny have argument with the Socs, Bob laughed at them because they are the Greasers. Johnny wants to protect Ponyboy and also himeself. Then, he took of his blade and killed Bob. “I killed him,’ he said slowly, ‘I killed that boy.”(Hinton 56) This quotation shows Johnny is shocked because he said this sentence really slow, he can’t believe he killed a social boy. When they went to save the firing church, they got hurt and had been sent to the hospital. The first thing Ponyboy woke up and asked is where is his friends. We can see this from:“ I was sitting in the waiting room, wait to hair how Darry and Johnny were.”(Hinton 96). We can know that the first thing Ponyboy recolonize is his friend, he really care about his friends are save or not. Also, when he wake up at first, he doesn’t really care how about he hurt, he is care about how his friend hurt.
