Being fourteen years old, Ponyboy Curtis has always been a greaser along with his two brothers, Sodapop Curtis and Darrel Curtis and his parents. Ponyboy lost his mother and father due to an auto wreck and now he is living with his brothers in the outskirts of the city. Ponyboy will always stay a greaser no matter what happens to him. He has lived through so much stuff and he has seen so many things that most people wouldn’t see in a lifetime. In the book The Outsiders, Ponyboy is jumped on multiple times and he still wouldn’t trade that for being a greaser. Ponyboy also does not want to change his lifestyle after everything that has happened to him. Ponyboy will also stay a greaser because he has the gang to take care of him and he can take care of them too, also they look beyond what is on the outside of each other and look on the inside instead. Ponyboy will stay a greaser even though it may mean that he will get jumped on multiple times by the Socs. He also just doesn’t want to change his lifestyle after everything that has happened to him. In the book, Ponyboy Curtis and Johnny Cade get jumped on by the Socs. The Socs is an abbreviation for the word Socials. The Socials are the higher class people in the city. When the two boys get jumped on, Ponyboy gets his arm pinned behind his back by a man named Bob. Bob was drunk at the time and so he was just doing what everyone else was doing at the time. Some people may say this because he is smarter than a greaser should be and he also has a chance that he could get a scholarship for college. This is not true because Ponyboy has his gang that he takes care of and they also take care of him. Also multiple times in the book, Ponyboy doesn’t want to become a Socs because he may end up in a boys home.
