Ponyboy made good and not to good choices throughout this book that made him be who he is. But if they didn't run away i still don't believe nothing would happen because when they ended up in the hospital they told the whole story and they eventually went to court but it was acquitted and nothing happened so this was a semi good choice because there was other things to do than run away.
