James Mao 9B EN101-6 Mrs. Wun January 4th Inside The Outsiders Although Ponyboy doesn’t understand Darry’s love, they still have a strong connection. They had conflicts sometimes, but they can always fix it and improve their brotherhood. Inside The Outsiders, S.E Hinton shows a really touching brotherhood between Ponyboy and Darry. It is shown by three main reasons. Firstly Darry acts as a father role. Moreover he cares about Ponyboy’s grades and safety. Last but not least Darry felt really anxious when Ponyboy was gone and he even cried at last when he found PB. Ponyboy and Darry have a strong connection, because Darry acts as a father. Darry felt really anxious when Ponyboy was gone and he even cried at last when PB was found. “Suddenly I realized, horrified, that Darry was crying. He didn’t make a sound, but tears were running down his cheeks. I hadn’t seen him cry in years, not even when Mom and Dad had been killed.” (Hinton P.98) Darry is really strict to Ponyboy and always pushes him to be stronger, however when the sons come to threaten Ponyboy’s safety, Darry would become really serious and worried about Ponyboy. He asks Ponyboy to get as much A’s as possible and at the same time he also wants Ponyboy to have enough exercises for Ponyboy’s health. In addition, he keeps an eye on Ponyboy’s safety as well. He scolds Ponyboy when he goes back home late. “I never could please him. He would have hollered at me for carrying a blade if I had carried one.
