Culture affects the opinions and values and even the way firms market to consumers. Localization goes beyond language. It makes sure the content resonates with the global audience on a personal and cultural level. There are many ways global organizations communicate their brands. Several marketing channels are available to quickly and effectively reach international audiences. The key is to be mindful of how to portray the brand, whatever country it is marketed in. This means taking into account how your brand’s marketing messages are viewed around the world.

In 1981, MTV arrived in America and changed the entertainment and media industries forever. It combined television and radio, and added a raw feel that was characteristically youth oriented. Companies who wanted to market to young adults took advantage of MTV. It was the ultimate source of American widespread culture including music, style, attitude, language, belief structures, and behaviours. As its power in the United States rose, the network began to expand globally.

MTV TIMELINE
1981 MTV US begins on the 1st of August 1981.
1984 MTV had changed the music industry. MTV US launched the MTV Video Music Awards.
1987 MTV Europe started.
1989 The first MTV Unplugged got taped in October and was broadcasted in 1990.
1990 MTV Brazil gets launched. The channel is spoken in Portuguese 24 hrs a day.
1991 MTV Asia and MTV Japan get on the air
1992 Oscars get an exciting and youthful counterpart: The MTV Movie Awards
1993 Launch of MTV Latin covering all regions of South America
1994 MTV US launches a Real World spin-off: Road Rules. It‟s time to hit the road
1997 MTV Europe goes local with the launch of MTV Central ( known as MTV Germany) in April, MTV UK & Ireland in July and MTV Italy ( known as MTV Southern) in September.
1999 MTV Korea, MTV India, MTV China, MTV Taiwan & Hong Kong - launched with special local VJ‟s and shows. MTV China would later launch the Chinese MTV Video Music Awards with CCTV China’s national TV
