Pop punk is a subgenre created through the merging of punk rock and pop music.
Typically, the music combines pop-esque melodies, lyrics and themes, with loud guitars, fast tempos, and chord changes. To be able to understand the foundation of pop punk music, one must first understand the history of the two genres from which it submerged.

It helped many other North American bands of the same genre in the following decade to gain success. Warped Tour and Hot Topic only brought further popularity to punk in the US mainstream.

In the mid-2000s along with the record label Fueled By Ramen, platinum albums were released from bands including Panic! At The Disco, Paramore, and Fall Out Boy.
The All-American Rejects released Move Along in 2005, and that inspired three top 15 singles. Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy signed Panic! at the Disco to his record label and the hit single, "I Write Sins, Not Tradgedies" closely followed winning them a 2000 MTV Video Music Award for Video of the Year. Avril Lavigne released her single "Girlfriend" and was called the "pop punk princess" as it peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and became the top selling song of 2007 and the most successful pop punk single of the entire decade.
