Pope John Paul II is a leader, role model, and demonstrates courage and respect in all that he did. He became the pope but the journey was not easy and had to work to get to the position he thought at one point would be impossible. Pope John Paul II was born on May 18, 1920 in Wadowice, Poland. Wadowice was located in the Republic of Poland and he was the youngest of three children. His dad was named Karol Wojtyla and his mother was named Emilia. He was named after his father and many people called his Wojtyla as a nickname. When Wojtyla was young, he played football and was usually the goal keeper. He loved participating in sports and was very active throughout his childhood. Wojtyla was always surrounded and had contact to a large Jewish community. Wojtyla became the pope in 1978 and his Papal Inauguration was held on October 22 1778. Ever since elected pope and through his whole life Wojtyla continued to do great things and followed and taught Jesus’ ways. Even though life looked like it could not get any better something occured a couple years after his Inauguration that shook the whole world. In May 13, 1981, Wojtyla was shot by a Turkish gunman. He was shot five times but 2 out of the three bullets missed main arteris and after good care to his wounds and after five long surgeries, Wojtyla was put back to full health. He then continued to do good deeds and follow out what God had preached and Wojtyla followed God’s ways and made the world a better place.Wojtyla did not let the shooting get in his way. He powered through and helped solve many world conflicts. Wojtyla turned into someone who anyone could look at and smile.
