On April 15, 1865, the President of the United States of America was assassinated. This president was Abraham Lincoln. He was killed by John Wilkes Booth, a member of the dying Confederacy, and caused an increased hatred to the south. This devastating event plummeted the nation into disbelief and sorrow, however, joy was another thing that came about Abraham's assassination. There were many negative and positive effects on the nation because of this event. His death gave some advantages to the radical republicans by allowing them to punish the south more.
