During the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the Western powers divided Africa and Colonized some areas of Asia. Imperialism is a stronger country taking over a weaker country, Imperialism is defined as a policy of extending a country’s power and influence through diplomacy or military force. In the 1800 Africa was divided into many different groups. In the 1880s, European controlled only about ten percent of Africa's land, travel into Africa was very difficult due to the fact that they couldn't navigate African Rivers. Many Europeans had a belief that they were better than the other people, they believe that they were superior to the other races. One effect of imperialism was Western education; many are not sure if this was a good or a bad effect because civilized colonies got their education, but since it was Western education it gave the colonies ideas of Liberty. Another effect was Sanitation this was a positive effect, these improvements came from the powerful ruling country into the weaker colonies. sanitation really improved health for the people of the colonies. another positive effect was improved transportation. One last positive effect was the introduction of new crops.
