I know that this event occurred 9 years ago, but I had to overcome some blinding obstacles and figure out what I was passionate about in life. After that, I chased money in the oilfield for four years and was eventually laid off. Being laid off was the best thing that could have ever happened to me.
It was an overall positive experience, and taught me skills I needed for future occupations,

Before coming to prison, I had failed at my two previous attempts at junior college without earning a single unit. It would take getting locked up and separated from society, before I 'd start to buckle down. I was 33-years old when I completed my first Coastline College course in Geology and received an A.

I have always enjoyed the art of cosmetology because it helps bring out people's features, makes them feel more confident, and there's always different looks for everyone. I remember when I would get my hair done, being so intrigued by the art that came from it. How changing the color of someone's hair can change there whole look, or how a simple haircut can bring out certain face features. When I first started doing hair and makeup, I was not very good, but the more I kept practicing the better I got. On the other hand I have always been pretty good with doing hair.

Knowing that the 4 years of high school was a journey for me, I was able to brace myself for the difficult times to come and the rewards I was going to receive.
