Positive Psychology How well are we familiar with positive psychology? Is it just being simply happy or does it contain a more logical way of being positive in general? According to an article in Psychology Today, it is a practice of gratitude and serenity within oneself in a person's life. It is not just about happiness but also to nurture a person's well-being, which of course lessens the likeliness of having depression. The few substantial aims of positive psychology is to always appreciate the littlest things that adds up to our happiness, to always be mindful of things people tend to overlook and of course to be capable to enlighten other people as well. A powerful way to develop relationships, called active-constructive responding, is stated in this article. It is defined as the ability to show how engaged and interested we are on what people say. A simple way of reaching out to those you see who are in need is also stated as a good habit of happy people, along with having a regular exercise to improve mental well-being and to lower the chances of having depression. Activities you can engage into such as sports, trying to learn playing any instrument, painting, etc, can produce a state called "flow", which is defined as any activity that you might find challenging but is still well suited to your skills in order for you to reach a goal. According to Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, an author and a psychology professor, defined Flow as, “A state in which people are so involved in an activity that nothing else seems to matter; the experience is so enjoyable that people will continue to do it even at great cost, for the sheer sake of doing it.” It has eight characteristics, which are: Complete concentration on the task, Clarity of goals and reward in mind and immediate feedback, Transformation of time (speeding up or slowing down of time), The experience is intrinsically rewarding, has an end itself, Effortlessness and ease, There is a balance between challenge and skills, Actions and awareness are merged, losing self-conscious rumination and There is a feeling of control over the task.
