Albert Einstein once stated, “Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school.” This quote sticks out for me because I believe that in addition to important material and concepts learned in school, it is equally as important to grasp onto the values and characteristics instilled within the student throughout the duration of their educational career. Throughout my experience being homeschooled, I believe these values and life lessons were especially present, amplified, and now continuing to influencing my life post high school. This stigma has been emphasized greatly, but my experience entirely opposes this assumption. With the absence of direct interactions with the sam peers daily, I was forced to seek out friendships and compatibility in less convenient areas of my life. I was able to invest time and energy in these relationships all while being able get my schoolwork done without any distractions. In addition to the many opportunities I had to socialize with students in my age range due to co-op classes, sports teams, and after school programs, I was able to expand my social circle by interacting with people of different age groups, backgrounds, and experiences. This, I believe, helped prepare me for real world situations that arise after high school. Take the workplace, for example. It is very unlikely that you will find an environment where every employee derives from the same background, culture, and age range. I have discovered that the same applies for most college classrooms, as well. So, I feel as if the social experiences and successes that I had as a result of homeschooling helped to expand my perspective and acceptance of individuals from all diverse backgrounds.
