It is not surprising that soldiers returning from a stressful war often suffer from a psychological condition called Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. For instance, in the book Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers, the principle character Perry unmistakably demonstrates how war troopers can be damaged and experience the ill effects of PTSD.
PTSD affects more than 3 million people a year and people can either forget about what happened to them that caused them PTSD or people can get serious symptoms. PTSD is when someone experiences or witnesses a horrifying accident that they can’t forget. PTSD is caused by physical and emotional feelings or thoughts. Some effects of PTSD can negatively affect your physical and mental health. All Quiet on the Western Front is a book that can relate to people nowadays that have PTSD by talking about a soldier named Paul that goes through terrifying experiences in World War 1.

Because of this, Billy is constantly reliving different moments in his life, or in other words, time travelling. I believe that Billy’s PTSD is the reason he is time traveling because PTSD is an example of time traveling and reliving experiences.
When John went to fight the war in Vietnam, he and Kathy were separated for two years and this resulted in their relationship becoming distant. A lot of people might not realize how PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) can affect people’s lives. It is a mental disorder that can drastically alter someone’s life. I have friends that have been in combat zones and have flashbacks due to certain noises. It is terrifying to watch them go through this. Just the sound of some fireworks could trigger an episode and they are truly scared for their lives.
