Kevin Cook, the author of "Keeping College Affordable for California Students," said that a magazine survey conducted by the California Students Aids Commission revealed that two-thirds of California students are facing financial challenges as the biggest obstacle to pursuing higher education. These economic hurdles include tuition fees, housing, food, and other expenses. For example, 30% of students in Los Angeles are affected by housing insecurity, while 33% experience food insecurity. This dire situation often leads students to skip meals or seek shelter in their cars, worsening their financial struggles. Although some students can overcome these challenges, poverty remains a significant obstacle to success.
