The United States has become the country with the most wealth, with almost 60,000 US citizens own $50 million in assets (Pizzigati). With the pride of being wealthy, do we forget about the other end of the spectrum? Throughout time, American citizens have been split into three classes; higher, middle, and lower. Multiple stories in our world are from stars born in poverty rising to the top, but is that a typical occurrence? Stars such as Oprah Winfrey, Leighton Meester, Shania Twain, Tom Cruise and more were all born into poverty, but are now faces the youth of America looks up to. There are many circumstances that make poverty and wealth similar, yet so different.
Poverty is the lowest level of the class system in the United States. American citizens that live on the poverty line are generally associated with failures. People who do not work, could be called a failure in society, though this is not true for all on the poverty line it is for some. People in poverty are also known to focus on obstacles. Due to them having a lot more to lose, the lower class will let fear stop them from achieving their dreams. They do not have the resources to take huge risks like those of higher classes. Due to wealth being the top of the top in America, it is often associated with success. Most of the time, it is not possible to be successful without working hard. In this day and age, hard work is defined as having a lot of endurance and effort to achieve a goal. Wealthy Americans are notable to let fear motivate them. Obstacles are not much of a phase to wealthy people because they have less to lose. Having a lot of money makes it possible to bounce back from bad situations easier and quicker. When not able to bounce back as quickly, it is a lot easier to accept help from others because they are already at the top of the food
