According to “TRUE: California Has the Nation's Highest Poverty Rate.” California has the highest poverty rate of 20 percent and the national poverty rate in the United States is 15 percent. But the official threshold in California for a family of four is about $24,000 of yearly income. In addition, there are over half a million kids live in homes where there is lack of proper income because some parents are disabled or have any other medical problems that doesn’t allow them to make enough money or nothing at all. Also, many people end of being laid off from work which makes them suffer and end up being in poverty. But, the reality of poverty in California is overlooked and no one really pays attention to the underprivileged. Poverty also affects the way children are raised and their mental and physical health, it also creates long-term social and behavior problems in school. And one of the problems that is leading people in poverty is education because people aren’t getting the right education for the right job so that they can make enough money to support their family. And some people work on the minimum wage that makes it hard for them to provide for their families, and they can’t do anything about it. When people have to work day and night just to provide food and shelter for their families it makes it hard for them to get a higher education that will make it easier for them to find a well-paying job. In addition, because of the high cost of living sometimes multiple families have to live in overcrowded homes. Almost, all the money that families living in poverty make use more than half of it to pay for housing.
