During World War II, efforts were made to make Japanese- American internees and American POWs in Japan “invisible.” At POW camps, guards tried to deprive the POWs of their dignity. Hillenbrand writes, “On Kwajalein the guards sought to deprive them of something that sustained them even as all else had been lost: dignity.” (Unbroken, 182) In addition to being beaten and starved, the men were deprived of their dignity, “This self-respect and sense of self-worth” (Unbroken, 182) essential for life.
On January 13th, 1999, a popular senior at Woodlawn High School in Baltimore, Maryland, disappears. The girl, Hae Min Lee, was later found in Leakin Park with marks proving she was strangled to death. Six weeks later, Adnan Syed, Lee’s classmate and ex-boyfriend, was arrested and sentenced to life in prison plus 30 years. A friend of Adnan, Jay, who graduated the spring prior from Woodlawn, is the only person with a timeline for the 13th of January and, unfortunately, it makes Adnan look guilty. But, with multiple inconsistencies and stories that do not match the other gathered evidence, Jay’s story is not perfect.
A court-martial named William Calley is a platoon leader for the U.S. in Charlie Company. He led his men into a Vietnamese Massacre. But before doing so he completed basic training when he was 23. March of 1967 Officer Candidacy School accepted him and he went six months of junior officer training. After that was complete he got a promotion to be lieutenant.

For example, when the evidence states,” that the terror in the eyes of all the young ones to go”. This evidence reveals, on how the fear and desperation of all the prisoners trying to give tattoos to the holocaust prisoners.
U.S. soldiers are trained to follow orders, which is exactly what they did as hundreds of villagers were indiscriminately killed in the My Lai Massacre. Even if the soldiers were acting under confusing orders, that is a failure of the chain of command, and even if the killings were orchestrated by a few incompetent officers, those officers never should have been placed in leadership roles. The real tragedy of My Lai represents an entire system of willful negligence and lack of accountability on the part of the military. Thus the responsibility for the massacre lies with the men involved, but also with the military chain of command that gave the order and then tried to cover it up.
February 9, 1999, was a very sad day for many in Baltimore County Maryland. This is why highschool student Hae Min Lee was found dead in Leakin Park. Just 19 days later on February 28, Adnan Syed was arrested for her murder and stayed in prison for 23 years. I believe that Adnan was falsely accused and imprisoned because Adnan did not have a good motive for the crime, he was found guilty only on the basis of reasonable doubt, and he had been exploited by his lawyer Christina Gutierrez. When you think of a crime what is one of the first things that comes to mind?
This proves that the control the SS soldiers have over the prisoners was so strong that they did not even need to be around them for them to be scared. The SS soldiers use violence to show the prisoners not to go against the rules and show everyone the

The girl has a brief conversation with a Japanese man who only knows japanese. “The girl shook her head and said she was sorry she only spoke English” (Otsuka, 28) By saying this the girl emphasises the fact that she is a American girl and she has that identity and not just a japanese spy. The soldiers guarding the Japanese-American families makes guarding absurd.

In 1939, France and England declared war on the Axis Powers, Germany, Italy, and Japan, starting World War II. During this time Nazi Concentration Camps formed under Hitler’s command and Japanese Internment Camps formed in America.
This shows resistance because they are still showing their faith even though the nazis are try to strip them of it. They show armed resistance by fight the Nazis with weapons. When every the Nazis attack them they attack right back. Also they strip the soldiers of their weapons and food.

The internment of Japanese Americans during WWII was not justified. After Pearl Harbor, many Americans were scared of the Japanese Americans because they could sabotage the U.S. military. To try and solve the fear President Franklin D Roosevelt told the army in Executive order 9066 to relocate all Japanese Americans living on the West Coast. They were relocated to detention centers in the desert. Many of them were in the detention centers for three years.
Jiang Wen’s title itself refers to the Japanese as “devils,” since they are the primary reason for the disruption of everyday life. This is evident in the scene where two Japanese soldiers utterly ruin the function and rationality of the village dwellers, especially Ma Dasan who has been burdened with the babysitting of two Japanese prisoners. This satirical scene exhibits how the two soldiers stir chaos and disorder of normality, and the Chinese villagers are forced to comply in such ludicrous circumstances (Wen 0:36:30). The period of terror and destruction occurred in Nanjing is undoubtedly among the worst in the history of modern warfare. This tremendous episode remained largely unknown or vaguely known for so long in particular in the Western countries and only in the 1990s exploded with such force, generating controversial debate and emotions. No one could fathom the overall extent of the terror.
Oral History The two interviews conducted were focused on the children of Italian immigrants who settled in Calumet. From their testimony the advantages and disadvantages of using oral history as a primary sources were evident. The advantages of using oral history is that their accounts are first hand experiences. Another advantage is their responses are unfiltered to the questions asked without having time to formulate an answer.
