Power and corruption has been an issue all throughout history. During the Russian Revolution, Joseph Stalin was gaining power really fast and how he handled his power was irresponsible. Lenin decided to get Trotsky to help him take down Stalin and stop him from leading Russians down a bad path. In the book Animal Farm, George Orwell creates a picture of an animal rebellion. He uses the animals to reflect an image of the Russian Revolution in 1917. Orwell uses specific animals to represent certain people, leaders, societies, economies, and feelings of the Russian Revolution. Orwell presents the theme power and corruption through the pigs intelligence, Napoleon instilling fear, and Squealers manipulative ways. The first way the theme power and corruption is shown, is when the pigs decide to use their intelligence to take control over the other animals. The pigs became the leaders because they were the smartest out of all the animals and with teaching themselves to read and write, they were automatically made leaders (Orwell 7). Since the pigs were so smart, the other animals looked up to them and trusted that they would guide them into the right direction. The animals trusted the pigs so much that the pigs were able to deceive them and get them to do what they wanted. This is important because it shows how the pigs got their power.
